Deschutes County is one of 36 counties in Oregon, with a population of 198,253. Named for the Deschutes River, its county seat is Bend, and it comprises the Bend, Oregon Metropolitan Statistical Area and media market. Deschutes is Oregon's fastest-growing county and is the political and economic hub of Central Oregon. With the Cascade Mountain Range to the west and the high desert plateau to the east, it is the outdoor recreation capital of Oregon.
