Description
Metro is requesting proposals for Entry Plaza and Polar Plaza Shelter Design for the Oregon Zoo. The purpose of the project is to design an update to two different areas: the entry plaza and polar plaza. The entry plaza plays an important role for visitors upon arriving at the zoo. It should be welcoming, generate excitement for guests as they arrive, and create a sense community. Not only should the updated plaza solve circulation and wayfinding issues, but it should be a purposeful gathering space that communicates the zoo’s mission while addressing programmatic needs for the main entry. Accessibility challenges will be addressed, and visitor amenities will be enhanced.
The Polar Plaza area will be enhanced by transforming the existing open plaza space into a gathering space with a permanent architectural shelter which will extend its use throughout the year. The shelter will address similar issues of accessibility and gathering by creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for visitors.
This project will analyze current needs of each area by evaluating buildings, facilities, guest and staff experience, animal habitats, and site infrastructure as required to document existing conditions and produce design solutions. Drawings will be submitted for permit and consultant will provide construction administration service.

Pre-Proposal Conference
A voluntary pre-proposal conference will be held in person at the zoo on May 30th at 1:00 pm. Interested proposers are encouraged to attend the conference in order to gain information about the RFP requirements. Participant will gather outside the main entry plaza.
